AHIMSA PROGRAM -YOGA FOR RECONCILIATION-

The program has been implemented since 2010 in 6 Colombian municipalities with successive impact measurements. Demobilized population’s mental health is a vital necessity to achieve sustainable peace.

Randomized controlled trial / Bogotá and Medellín (2012)

This project is carried out thanks to the support from the Bolivar Davivienda Foundation and the Agencia Colombiana para la Reintegración

An intervention and measurement was performed with 250 demobilized soldiers diagnosed with PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) from Bogota and Medellin. Participants received an intervention based on the Satyananda Yoga methodology for 4 months. Sessions consisted of diverse Yoga practices to manage and understand their symptoms and recover functionality.

The study results are statistically and clinically significant and we will soon publish the results of the research.

Pilot Study / Bogotá (2010)

The pilot project consisted in scientifically proving the effects of Yoga for the management of Post-Traumatic Stress (PSTD) in a demobilized Colombian population.

A pilot project was performed with 45 demobilized soldiers in Bogotá. The intervention consisted of a 3 month period with an intensity of 2 weekly sessions, one hour each. The Yoga sessions consisted of the application of asanas, pranayamas and yoga nidra based on the Satyananda Yog®a methodology. There was a verified 48.5% improvement of Post-Traumatic Stress symptoms.
